Who Are Our LJV Members?
LJV volunteers range in age from 25 to 75+ years old, represent a wide diversity of cultural and international backgrounds, and are often full-time professionals with family, work and study commitments, as well as people making various transitions, including those moving towards retirement. The combination of a volunteering placement with the opportunity to reflect upon that experience has proved to be a powerful magnet, and meets a deep need to make modern living meaningful. Volunteering raises vital questions for the whole of volunteers’ lives – about how to embody Gospel values in relationships, in prayer, in the home, at work, and with the people we accompany and serve.

Three Components of the London Jesuit Volunteers Commitment, Rooted in the Ignatian Value of Seeking God in all Things:
1 Commit to volunteering for an LJV season (minimum of one year), part-time for at least 2-8 hours a week or comparable hours monthly, in London, alongside
2 Commit to reflection: on an individual basis (through personal prayer, scriptural reading, and keeping a journal of your volunteer experiences); through monthly peer group reflection meetings (sharing with other volunteers your various experiences); and one to one with
3 Commit to community: both to LJV as your sending community (by prioritising monthly peer group meetings); and to your volunteering placement as your receiving community (by your care for the

LJV Peer Group Spiritual Reflection
The Spiritual Reflection Peer Groups gather together once a month for prayer, reflection and discussion. Members share with each other their experience of volunteering – both the joys and the frustrations. The insights gained through this exchange are a source of personal growth, which in turn nurtures the service we offer in our volunteering. And since volunteering may also involve us in stepping outside our comfort-zone, this time together – rooted in the Ignatian practice of seeking God in all things – helps the group to build community and to support one another. Each group is facilitated by a Spiritual Reflector who is trained in Ignatian spirituality.
LJV Individual One-to-one Spiritual Reflection
LJV members are also offered the opportunity – if they would like – to meet with a Spiritual Reflector trained in Ignatian spirituality for one-toone spiritual conversation. The role of the reflector is to walk with the volunteer on their spiritual journey, and to help them discern where God is at work in their life – in their relationships, family, work, prayer and volunteering. The vision of London Jesuit Volunteers is that of integrating service and reflection – inspired by the core dynamic of Ignatian spirituality: “contemplation in action”.
