Poetry Appreciation Evening/Group
Kate More
The Poetry Appreciation group meets monthly on a Wednesday evening 7-9pm, dates for the coming months are: December 14th, January 11th, February 8th, March 14th, April 11th
This group is for anyone who has an interest in poetry and would like an opportunity to reflect upon the impact of poetry on them as individuals, using specific poems as a reference point. It will be aimed at a general mixed audience, both poetry enthusiasts and people interested in developing their appreciation of poetry.
It is an opportunity for a group of people to come together to share their interest and love of poetry, reflect on its capacity to move, enrich, comfort, challenge and excite, to reflect upon individual poems’ meaning for us as individuals, and as pilgrims in the world on a unique journey toward meaning and fulfilment.
No assumptions will be made about prior study or knowledge of poets and poetic techniques or styles rather the focus will be on our personal responses to specific poems and an exploration of why they affect us in the way they do.
You are asked to bring along a poem that you like and a willingness to share your thoughts and personal responses in the group. The group is open to everyone. You are welcome to just come along.
About the Facilitator
Kate Moore I am Scottish born, studied literature at Glasgow University many years ago, and have lived in London for twenty years. I have been reading poetry for thirty years and writing it for two years, and I am a member of Highgate Poets. When not reading or writing poetry, I am involved in welfare advocacy and pastoral work with vulnerable people. I am moved by the heroism and humility of broken lives and find inspiration in the people who grace my path.
I am fascinated by poetry, its power to speak to us at so many levels and I consider appreciation of it as much a gift as being able to write it.
